The joy of FX

I now have more shows on FX on my SKY+ than any other digital network. There's Burn Notice on a Sunday which is frothy and silly but gets away with it via charming performances, a great Miami locale and a nice tongue in cheek script. Breaking Bad which airs right after it, features Bryan Cranston in an emmy winning performance as a man dying in cancer. The third episode which aired last Sunday is probably one of the best eps I have seen this year. Catch it while you can, there are only 7 shows in the first season. Add in Nip/Tuck and the just ended Wire, Dexter and NCIS as well as the upcoming David Simon series Generation Kill, True Blood from Six Feet Under scribe Alan Ball, and a new sereis of Brotherhood and FX is becoming the home of quality US drama...now if only they would pick up Rescue Me...

In addition, FX deserve a huge amount of respect for simply showing Matrioshki, despite the fact it was rather good.

How many other commercial channels would be willing to show a 10-part Belgian drama series that is mostly in Flemish and Lithuanian?

I really hope they will also be showing the sequel that was made earlier this year.

While NCIS seems, to me, to be out of place on that list there are plenty of former shows that can be added too such as Huff and Carnivàle.

I really cannot understand why, given the might of News Corporation behind it, the channel is not better promoted. It should be a rival to the likes of Sky 1 and E4. Instead it seems to be a secret even despite media commentators and reviewers constantly raving over it.

But there is one complaint I have about the channel: the length of time it take for them to show programmes. With most channels airing their acquisitions ever closer to their US broadcasts (even ITV2 who are now showing new Entourage episodes the same week as HBO), they seems to be lagging a long way behind.

And even when they start advertising something as 'coming soon' it is still usually several months before it actually airs.

Certainly agree with all that. The US are already watching season 2 of Burn Notice and as for the 'coming soon', Generation Kill has been coming soon since about August and its not on until next January!!
